I am a lecturer in the School of Eduction at Charles Sturt University. I teach in a variety of subjects including inclusive education, child and adolescent development and pedagogy and classroom management in the primary, secondary and graduate diploma programs. My research interests include the issues for families affected by parental mental illness (COPMI). I am also interested in the personal qualities that therapists bring to the therapeutic environment, or what is sometimes referred to as the counsellor's self in therapy. I am also interested in hypnosis and its applications to a wide range of issues, behaviour management and eduction for children with special needs including those with developmental delays, emotional difficulties, disabilities and learning difficulties. I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and co-facilitator of the Riverina Branch of the APS. After teaching at high schools in Stawell and Geelong (Victoria ) I trained to become a school psychologist and worked in this capacity in both the Victoria and Queensland education systems. After over five years in this position I became a Senior Guidance Officer, in which I was responsible for supervising and supporting eight welfare, career and psychological support staff in schools. With my partner I then established and maintained a private psychology practice, and worked with various clientele and organisations. I then worked for some time at La Trobe University (Albury-Wodonga campus) within the psychology program before moving to Charles Sturt University (Wagga Wagga campus) in the School of Education .
